From the age of 7 Owen played competitive sports in the form of Rugby, this continued through to his early 20’s where he moved to Kent to study Sports & Exercise Science, obtaining a BSc at The University of Kent.

Whilst at University he played County and National-league Rugby, and this is where he found CrossFit. Beginning in 2011 he initially used CrossFit as a tool to improve his performance on the pitch, he quickly drank the Kool-Aid and become an avid CrossFitter.

In 2012 he began coaching at NWK CrossFit and in 2015 founded CrossFit Aylesbury & Aylesbury Weightlifting Club, where he continues his role as Head Coach & Owner.

As well as helping the local community at CrossFit Aylesbury Owen also has a passion for coaching high-level competitive athletes including taking multiple athletes to Sanctional CrossFit events, as well as International Weightlifting Competitions.

He is passionate about bringing his extensive experience and helping TAP athletes about achieving the highest levels of performance possible.

What made you want to become a coach?

I find helping athletes overcome hurdles in their training and reach levels of performance that they previously though unattainable extremely rewarding. There is no better feeling than watching somebody consistently put in hard work and reap the rewards in the form of PB’s and competition performances.

Having competed in the sports of CrossFit and Weightlifting to an average level (The European Championships, Athens Throwdown to name a few) I quickly found that my efforts were far more effective when placed into helping others reach high levels of performance, rather than my own.

When is the last time you were out of your comfort zone?

Daily – outside of your comfort zone is where the magic happens, and where the growth you desire both physically and mentally can be achieved!

Whether it is within my own training, coaching members at my affiliate, coaching at competitions or developing myself and my own coaching tools I firmly believe that you must be prepared to step outside of your comfort zone in order to grow.

Tell me something far lesser known about you.

In 2015 I sustained a pretty severe knee injury playing rugby, I spent the next 4 years undergoing 3 knee reconstructions and extensive rehabilitation – at one point I was told I would never be able to squat again!
