Before she discovered CrossFit, taking part in her first ‘WOD’ October 2014 at her local box in Hampshire, Emelye had very little interest in sports. Growing up in a world of performing arts – her passion was dance, theatre and music, which she studied from her toddler years right up until her mid twenties. As soon as she retired from theatre she needed something to spark that same adrenaline, and the rest is history
Emelye’s career in coaching began at the tender age of 13 when she would run the junior and infant sessions at her local gymnastics clubs. A talented performer herself, Emelye was commissioned to work with some of Hampshire’s the top Youth Theatres adding the dynamic elements of performance to their big productions; before going on to choreograph alongside her musical theatre studies at the Guildford School of acting.
Whilst still a professional full time dancer & actress Emelye took her advanced Pilates and gym instructor qualifications. & began to specialise in ‘p’rehabilitation’ exercise, as a means of preventing injury, not treating it.
Emelye has been coaching CrossFit for 3 years and loves the objective nature of the sport. She now runs the CrossFit kids program at CrossFit Colchester and alongside a full quota of personal training clients.
She is an accomplished athlete herself – highlights include:
- 11th place in the CrossFit Open 2018 (Europe Central Region)
- Attending the European Regional with ‘The Athlete Program Team’ 2018
- 1st Place – Battle of Britain 2018
- 1st Place – Castle Games 2018
- 1st Place – British Fitness Racing Championships
- Invitation to the International Functional Fitness Racing World Championships
- 11th Place – The European Championships 2018
“There is no subjective opinion in CrossFit… you’re either the fastest, the fittest or the strongest – or you’re not. I like that level of black and white. If you work hard – you get results. It is measurable and has absolutely, and unquestionably changed my life for the better. My only regret is not discovering it sooner”
Emelye is a huge advocate of building people up, encouraging a positive mindset and helping people realise their full potential.

What made you become a coach?
“Coaching for me is an extension of me passing on what I am passionate about. I am a massive geek and love to learn – whether that be about human physiology, sleep, the gut or CrossFit movements!! I love to then share any newfound knowledge and help others benefit from it. It is exhilarating when the lightbulb switches on for an athlete and you watch it all fall into place – especially when you’ve been a part of that.”
What is your favourite quote or mantra to live by?
“You are perfectly capable.”
Does being a good person make you a better athlete and coach?
“Without a doubt. The brain turns daily choices and actions into autopilots or actions that are repeated in all you do – be a decent human being in life, be a decent coach and athlete in the gym. Being called coach is a privilege and an honor – you have to earn that right!”
What are your non-negotiables when it comes to your training?
“I am following my program and there is no room for discussion; and I get it done, all of it… it is my absolute favourite part of my day.”
Tell me something far lesser known about you.
“I used to have 24 pet rats and they all had names like ‘Delilah, Noah, Pepita, Consuela, Jemima and Issac. They were mega!”
